NAFDAC SECURES COURT CONVICTION OF LAGOS TRADER, TWO COMPANIES OVER FAKE, UNREGISTERED DRUGS
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has secured the conviction of a Lagos trader, Elijah Chigbogu, and two companies linked to him, Prolife & Well Pharmaceutical Limited and God of Elijah Nigeria Limited, over the illegal possession, importation, display for sale and distribution of fake and unregistered drugs.
The conviction was secured at a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos after the three defendants pleaded guilty to a four-count charge before Justice Musa Kakaki.
NAFDAC said the offences were committed on or about July 28, 2025, at the defendants’ business premises at No. 58, Obun Eko Street, Idumota, Lagos Island, and No. 29, Oluwale Loyole Street, Ikotun Egbe, Lagos.
The fake and unregistered drugs found in the defendants’ possession and offered for sale included medicines for allergies, hypertension, diabetes, pain management and other medical conditions.
Following a review of the plea bargain agreement and the defendants’ guilty pleas, Justice Kakaki convicted all three defendants.
The court subsequently sentenced Chigbogu, the first defendant, to a fine of ₦1.5 million.
NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing individuals and companies involved in the manufacture, importation, distribution and sale of fake and substandard regulated products.
The agency said it would continue to prosecute such offences in accordance with the law.
