WAFCON 2026: SUPER FALCONS THRASH EGYPT 6-2 TO REACH QUARTER-FINALS, KEEP TITLE DEFENCE ALIVE

Nigeria’s Super Falcons booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a commanding 6-2 victory over Egypt in their final Group C fixture in Rabat on Wednesday.

The nine-time African champions produced a dominant attacking display to seal qualification and maintain their quest for a record-extending 10th continental title.

‎The defending champions controlled proceedings from the outset, dictating possession and creating several scoring opportunities against an Egyptian side that had already been eliminated from the tournament.

‎Captain Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring in the 21st minute, calmly converting a penalty after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review confirmed a handball inside Egypt’s penalty area.

‎Nigeria continued to pile pressure on their opponents with an impressive attacking display, extending their advantage with a series of well-worked goals that effectively put the contest beyond Egypt’s reach.

‎Egypt managed to reduce the deficit just before the break before adding a second goal from the penalty spot late in the encounter. However, the Super Falcons remained in complete control throughout the match.

‎Late strikes from Rasheedat Ajibade and Joy Omewa in stoppage time capped an emphatic 6-2 victory, underlining Nigeria’s attacking prowess and sending a strong message to the remaining contenders.

‎The convincing win secures Nigeria’s place in the last eight of the tournament, where the Super Falcons will continue their pursuit of a historic 10th WAFCON crown after finishing the group stage on a high.
